“As a result of your ministry, they will give glory to God. For your generosity to them and to all believers will prove that you are obedient to the Good News of Christ. And they will pray for you with deep affection because of the overflowing grace God has given to you. Thank God for this gift too wonderful for words!”
2 Corinthians 9:13-15, NLT
You were created to make an impact on this world.
One of the most profound ways we can be sure to leave our mark is through the giving of ourselves. Your generosity has the power to reveal the character of Jesus to the people around us, both the ones we know and the ones we don’t know. Because of His great generosity towards us—the laying down of His life—we are inspired to live in that same way. Generosity works just like love and grace and comfort:
Because He first loved us, we love others.
Because He first showed us grace, we can give grace to others.
Because He comforts us, we can comfort others.
Because He has been so generous, bestowing on us the gifts of our salvation and daily provision, we can be a witness to others through our own actions towards other people. This obedience to live and give generously is one way we thank God for what He has given us. It’s a giving that comes out of the overflow of joy. It’s a giving that doesn’t say, “Hey, look at me! Aren’t I amazing?” but rather “Hey, look at the God I serve! Isn’t He amazing?” Our generosity is finite, but He can do anything. And in those moments when He calls us to a generosity that stretches us outside our comfort zone, we can remember that Christ made it all possible and with Him we can do all things.
How do your actions reflect your gratitude to God for His great generosity in your life?
How have you seen your generosity impact those around you?
Jesus, help me to give freely and abundantly as a response to your great generosity towards me so that others may know what a great and faithful God You are. Amen.
